Getting Started with your Agent Account

This help section provides a step-by-step list of instructions for signing up, logging in, setting up your account, preparing to add your first listing, adding your first listing, and authorizing a payment. You may want to print this page and keep it beside you for reference, while you are setting up your account.

If you are part of a shared team, see also Team Accounts Overview and Team Account Setup Instructions

The first 14 days are free, so you can set up your account and start adding listings without having to deal with payment procedures.

You can sign up at any time during the free trial to ensure that your listings remain available to the public. You will get the entire trial period free whether you arrange for payment on the first day or the last. Although payment will be taken from your account as soon as you initiate payment, any days remaining on your free trial period will be added to the number of days just purchased, and credited to your account.

Prerequisites:

A valid e-mail account is the only thing you need in order to use the HouseFlash Listing Service so that the system can email your initial password.

Steps to getting started

    Signing Up

  1. Select ‘Member Login' link in the top right corner on http://www.houseflash.com.
  2. On the ‘Agent Login’ page, select ‘Create a new account’ button.
  3. On the ‘Create New Agent Account:’ page, you identify yourself to the HouseFlash Listing Service Administration system. Enter the appropriate data according to the instructions contained beside each field. Required fields are indicated by a *.
  4. ‘Save Changes’, and the system will immediately send you an e-mail containing your password to sign on to the HouseFlash system.

    Logging In

  5. Go to your email system to retrieve your temporary password and agent instructions. Copy the password.
  6. Go to the HouseFlash Agent Login by clicking on the 'Member Login' link in the top right corner on http://www.houseflash.com. Enter the username and password from the e-mail. Or if the "Continue" button is still visible, click on it to go to the Agent Login Menu where your username is prefilled; paste or type your password into the password field. Click "login". You will be presented with the Agent Menu.

    Changing Your Temporary Password

  7. If you wish to change the automatically generated password to a more personal one, go to Account Info when the agent menu appears. Enter your new password in the password field and ‘Save Changes’.

    Website Design

  8. On the Agent Menu, select Extra Options to choose the colors and style of your listings display. These colors will probably match your company colors. You can click on the color options chart to select the web colors you choose for your webpage. You may also choose from 3 different layouts for the Listings Summary page. Any changes you make to these settings affect all the listings you have on file with us - no need to re-enter your listings when you want to change the look.
  9. Select Page Top Settings on the Agent Menu, to set up a photo, a logo, an agent’s title and a tagline. These will be shown with the 'Contact Info' from step 10 to any visitor who clicks on your name on the listing page. These will also be shown as a 'page top' above your listings if you are not incorporating your HouseFlashlistings into another website.
  10. Select Contact Info from the Agent Menu to enter those ways by which you want a potential client to be able to reach you, the same as you have on your business card. For example: team phone number, email, fax, home phone, cell phone, car phone.

    Check Out the Example Listing

  11. To assist you in getting started as quickly as possible, your new account will already contain an 'example listing', which uses the default system settings.
  12. Beside the 'Update Listings' menu item, you will see "you currently have 1 property listing on file and 3 pictures for them" - this is the example listing.
  13. To see if you like this display for your clients click on 'View Listings'.
  14. You may keep this example listing for a reference. (To hide this listing from your clients, click on 'Update Listing', and select 'invisible' from the drop down list on the 'status' field.)
  15. You may also modify all the property information and delete the pictures to replace them with your own.
  16. You can delete the example by clicking on Delete this listing link on the Property Maintenance Menu.

Preparing to Add Your Own Listing

  17. Have your property description details ready and available to input. You can easily compose on-line, but you will probably need some property details for reference. You can also change or add information at any time.
  18. Have your pictures already on your harddrive or CD or diskette.
  19. For information on options for getting your pictures or photos into your computer click here

    Adding Your Own Listing

  20. Select Update Listings from the Agent Menu or the top of page Quick Links to add your listings.
  21. Select Create a new listing to add the listing info.
  22. Select Revise Photos to upload the photos for your listing.
  23. Select View Listings‘View Listings’ from the Agent Menu or top of page Quick Links to view your listings. If you are using the HouseFlash website for client access, this is exactly how your clients will see your listings.

    Display Your Listings at HouseFlash

  24. If you are using http://www.houseflash.com, you're finished.
  25. You can start to advertize your site as http://www.houseflash.com/xxx, where xxx is your webname or login name from the Account Info page.

Display Your Listings at Your Own or Shared Site

  26. To display your listings on your own website, ask your website administrator (or the person who designed your site) to replace the current URL for your listings with the following:

    http://www.houseflash.com/ra/lister.php?agentid=xxx
where the ‘xxx’ is your HouseFlash ‘webname’. This will bring your listings into a frame within your website page; i.e. your listings will be framed by your own page top and/or side.

If you wish to display the HouseFlash page top and listings; i.e. the complete page, ask your website administrator (or the person who designed your site) to replace the current URL for your listings with the following:

    http://www.houseflash.com/ra/lister.php?agentid=xxx&top=yes
where ‘xxx’ is your HouseFlash ‘webname’. This will display the page top you designed for HouseFlash (in steps 9 and 10 above) as well as your HouseFlash listings when your properties are viewed from your website.

Transition:

As soon as you have decided to use the HouseFlash tool to maintain your real estate listings, it is important to get your setup finalized and enter all of your current listings in HouseFlash asap. If you were using another service for your listings, we suggest that you send files of the original pictures, when entering your listings on HouseFlash. Once you are happy with the setup of your site and your listings, then you are ready to make the transition to displaying your HouseFlash properties for your prospects. There are several options for the transition to HouseFlash, depending on your current situation.

You do not have a website

You are free to use your HouseFlash webpage as your site for public access. As soon as you have finished setting up your page top, and entering your current and best sold properties, just advertise www.houseflash.com/yourwebname as the URL for your listings. Your prospects will see the page top you set up as well as your HouseFlash listings all in one click.

    Your website is under construction

If your website is not yet ready to display your listings, you may use HouseFlash in the same way as if you had no site. Once your site is ready, just add the link from your site to HouseFlash to pull your HouseFlash listings into your site. Start advertising your new site. Don't worry about advertising the HouseFlash URL, because, as soon as you tell us, we will forward anyone who enters www.houseflash.com/yourwebname to your new site.

You have a website but no listings on it

All you have to do is add one of the links below to your site to pull your listings into your site either as a full page or a frame within one of your pages. If you are currently not displaying listings, it would probably be easiest to use the full HouseFlash page. The choice is yours.

You have a website which points to your MLS or personal listings

If you wish to retain the link to your other listings, then add the link to HouseFlash as a separate link with distinguishing labels. If you no longer wish to link to your other listings, then simply replace your current link with one of the links to HouseFlash.

To display your listings on your own website, ask your website administrator (or the person who designed your site) to replace the current URL for your listings with the following:

http://www.houseflash.com/ra/lister.php?agentid=xxx
... where the ‘xxx’ is your HouseFlash ‘webname’. This will bring your listings into a frame within your website page; i.e. your listings will be framed by your own page top and/or side.

If you wish to display the HouseFlash page top and listings; i.e. the complete page, ask your website administrator (or the person who designed your site) to replace the current URL for your listings with the following:

http://www.houseflash.com/ra/lister.php?agentid=xxx&top=yes
... where ‘xxx’ is your HouseFlash ‘webname’. This will display the page top you designed for HouseFlash as well as your HouseFlash listings when your properties are viewed from your website.

Steps to Follow to Authorize Your First Payment to HouseFlash:

This section describes the steps to follow to enable you to make on-line payments to HouseFlash Listing Service. HouseFlash only accepts payments via the PayPal secure on-line payments system. If you are already a PayPal member, you may use the same account to pay for the HouseFlash Listing Service. If you are not currently a PayPal member, this section will also describe how to sign up for the first time.

Choose the Subscription Package and Payment Method for You

  1. Select the 'Subscription Records' button from the 'Agent Menu' to enter your subscription and payment choices.
  2. This selection will retrieve a page which displays your 'Current Subscription and Payment Selection', and your 'Subscription and Payment History' information. Before you have a payment account: under Current Subscription, you will see the message: 'You have not selected a subscription package. Click here to select one; and under Subscription and Payment History, you will see the message: 'There are 0 entries in this list.' After your PayPal account has been activated, the relevant subscription and payment information will be displayed.
  3. Selecting the link 'Click here to select one' retrieves the 'Subscription Packages Choices' page with the various subscription options available to you. You will be presented with the package options which relate to your country; e.g. Canadian addresses will see the Canadian rates; all others will see the US rates. You have the option of selecting from either currency by clicking on the link to it. Note that once you have selected a package in one currency, you must cancel that subscription before you can request a subscription package in another currency. Select your subscription package preference by clicking on it.
  4. Selecting the subscription package retrieves the 'Payment Set Up:' information, which lists the payment options available for that subscription. Currently the only option is recurring automatic PayPal payments. Click on the link in the 'Select' column to arrange for the payments for your subscription to HouseFlash Listing Service to be paid in that way.

    Already have a PayPal account?

  5. On the initial PayPal page the conditions of your subscription choice are shown at the top of the page; e.g. price per cycle, maximum listings, maximum pictures. You are also advised that 'PayPal is the authorized payment processor for HouseFlash', and that 'This credit card transaction will appear on your bill as "PayPal".
  6. If you already have a PayPal account for some other purpose, then click the 'Login Now' button. This is now a PayPal process and will be similar to other transactions you have made via PayPal. You will receive only the 'Subscription Receipt for HouseFlash XXXX' email, and if requested on your Notifications Preferences, you will also receive an email for each payment taken.

You've never had a PayPal account?

  7. If you do not have a PayPal account, then fill in the PayPal application/registration. This includes personal identification, credit card information, including address for billing, PayPal password creation, and security measures. Note, that for Canadian addresses click the 'Outside the U.S.' link to retrieve Canadian address and telephone fields. The country number for Canadian telephone numbers is '1'. When all information has been correctly entered, press 'Submit to Secure Server' for transmission to PayPal. PayPal will return a page confirming your successful signup and including a description of the terms of your subscription.
  8. You will receive the following e-mails from PayPal:

    • From Confirm@PayPal.com: Subject: PayPal Email Confirmation. You are almost done signing up. To confirm that the email address entered at sign-up is valid, in the email click the 'click here' link to enter your password. On the page presented, enter the password you selected at sign-up, and press the 'Confirm' button. This will take you to another page where you will be asked to select and answer 2 security questions to be used for identification confirmation. When you press 'Submit', you will be taken to a page, which says, "You have successfully changed your security questions and answers. It also displays an overview of your account information.

    • From Service@paypal.com: Subject: Subscription Receipt for HouseFlash Standard. This email identifies the first payment amount, subscription details, Contact Info for HouseFlash, notification preferences, and how to cancel your subscription.

    • From Service@paypal.com: Subject: Enter your member #. You will receive this number on your next credit card billing or on-line credit billing account.

    • From welcome@paypal.com: This email provides basic information about your PayPal account and how to get started.

That's it you're done. Welcome to HouseFlash!
